Dear Jane

At our local Quilt West meeting today we had a special guest speaker, Angela Davis. She has managed to finish a Dear Jane Quilt. If you have no idea what a Dear Jane Quilt is, check it here.

There has been many replicas of the Dear Jane quilt but I think Angela’s is very special. Her quilt won ribbons on quilt shows and her quilt was showcased in Paris early this year.

10 Things I loved about her Dear Jane Quilt:

1. No block had repeat fabrics.
2. Colour coordination was sublime.
3. The back of the quilt is as beautiful as the front.
4. It took her 12 years to make.
5. It was her second project when she started to quilt!
6. She used fabrics from family, such as her sisters dress fabric.
7. She omitted some difficult blocks and added blocks of her liking.
8. You can see the love that went into this quilt.
9. It was made by machine and hand.
10. She used the “quilt as you go” technique to put the quilt together.

Here are some pictures of her quilt and a pictures of both of us for the blog. Enjoy!!!!

Quilt shop & Chocolate

Although my trip is a bitter sweet trip, I have managed to enjoy it very much. I am really loving to spend time with my baby niece Alexia!!! She is sooo cute!!

I also made some time to go and explore the quilt shops here in The Hague, actually I just managed to go see one Quilts Palet What a little treasure of a shop. Bought this awesome pattern book for a quilt called “Little Amsterdam”, can’t wait to start on it!!

While we were in the shop, Luke started to get upset and wanted to leave, so typical male behaviour. But the little man has been super through out this trip, being stuck inside most of the days with no kids to play is not easy for a 4 year old.

When we left the quilt shop we went past this awesome chocolatier. Luke and I went crazy with all the beautiful Easter chocolate. The detail of these beautiful chocolates blowed my mind!!!

We had lunch at the sushi place with my sister and did some window shopping. Tomorrow we are off to Zaandam for the weekend to spend some time with great friends and Luke can finally enjoy playing with some kids.

Enjoy the pictures of the quilts in the shop and of the wonderful chocolates! Enjoy!

Bear Block Finished

So after a horrible 2 weeks of flu in my little house in Oz; I finally feel a little better to get one block done for my little niece’s quilt. I was diagnosed yesterday with whopping cough. Because of the flu and my allergies this bloody cough got me to the emergency room on Tuesday. I am still under the weather but at least I am able walk around now. I always wanted to make the majestic bear paw block and I am very happy how it turned out. The block finished measures 6 inches. The smallest scare was 1inch, yikes!!! So what do you all think? I added a photo of me in the emergency room too! Lol
